Why Manassas?

During the Civil War railroads were hugely important as a means of communication and transportation for supplies and troops. This maps shows the intersection of railroads at Manassas Junction. The first battle of the Civil War occurred in Manssas, Virginia because the Union and Confederate armies were competing to see who would have control of this key resource.
