Why Manassas?

Manassas Junciton was a small railroad junction at the intersection of the Alexandria and Orange railroad lines. Manssas' central location along transportation routes made it the location of the first battle of the Civil War.

Railroad lines were hugely important for communication and transportation of troops and supplies. It has been suggested by some scholars that properly using this technology was a core factor in determining who would be victorious during the war.
