A Peculiar Institution

Slavery tore apart families. The Robinsons were more lucky than most. Sarah Robinson and her children were freed in the will of their owner Jon Lee. Unfortunately, their freedom did not come until after two of their sons had been sold South to Louisiana.

Family oral history holds that upon hearing about emancipation one of these sons, Alfred, walked home to Virginia to be reunited with the family.
